Questo Giovedì  si terrà un evento a Yad Vashem in occasione del 75 ° anniversario della liberazione del campo di sterminio di Auschwitz. L'elenco degli invitati che hanno confermato il loro arrivo - capi di stato e rappresentanti senior della maggior parte dei paesi europei, del Canada, dell'Australia e degli Stati Uniti e persino rappresentanti delle famiglie reali europee - costituisce  la realizzazione del sogno razzista di Viktor Orban e Jair Bolsonaro di un mondo bianco realizzato sull'identità giudeo-cristiana. Con l'eccezione del presidente dell'Argentina, non vi sono partecipanti dall'America Latina, dall'Africa o dall'Asia orientale e non è un caso.

Dopo la seconda guerra mondiale, come "lezione" dell'Olocausto, la comunità internazionale ha concordato una serie di convenzioni volte a sancire il riconoscimento e la protezione dei diritti umani e civili di base, prevenire il genocidio e la discriminazione e proteggere i rifugiati. Queste convenzioni non erano perfette, ma davano speranza che il voto di "mai più" non sarebbe stato vano.

Nella realtà ciò  non è del tutto accaduto fin dall'inizio. Per quanto riguarda lo Stato di Israele e molti paesi occidentali, i cui rappresentanti parteciperanno all'evento a Yad Vashem, i civili nel Sud del mondo non sono stati pienamente ammessi a beneficiare delle nuove convenzioni e protezioni dei diritti umani e civili stabiliti  come lezione dall'Olocausto. Per decenni ,  dopo la liberazione di Auschwitz, la maggior parte di questi paesi non solo è rimasta in silenzio di fronte a una lunga serie di massacri, stupri, sparizioni e torture di massa, ma ha attivamente partecipato a questi crimini. Alcuni paesi occidentali hanno continuato ad amministrare regimi coloniali e neo-coloniali., privilegiando gli interessi economici durante la guerra fredda e la lotta al comunismo ,

Con il consenso degli Stati Uniti  Israele divenne presto un importante fornitore di armi per una serie di regimi omicidi  nel Centro e Sud America, in Africa e nel Sud-Est asiatico. Ad esempio, l'importante sostegno di Israele alla preparazione della Convenzione sulla prevenzione e la punizione del crimine di genocidio, entrato in vigore nel 1951, è stato sostituito con il sostegno al regime militare del Guatemala . Il  genocidio perpetrato contro le comunità indigene è stato attuato con armi israeliane . Il suo sostegno alla Convenzione per eliminare tutte le forme di discriminazione razziale   è stato sostituito con  un massiccio sostegno militare al regime di apartheid in Sudafrica.

In contrasto con il Museo dell'Olocausto a Washington che nel corso degli anni ha sviluppato un'interpretazione universalista delle lezioni dell'Olocausto, denunciando l'annientamento e i crimini contro l'umanità  e istituendo  persino  un Istituto per la prevenzione del genocidio, Yad Vashem (con alcune notevoli eccezioni tra i suoi ricercatori) ha evitato qualsiasi discorso che non riguardasse il mondo  ebraico. Yad Vashem è stato per decenni un posto di sosta obbligatorio per dittatori, assassini, razzisti e fascisti, che vengono in Israele per concludere accordi sulle armi , ottenere legittimità e un marchio di approvazione da un alleato degli Stati Uniti. Pertanto non esiste un posto migliore per imbiancare collettivamente tutti i crimini di quei paesi contro una parte sostanziale della popolazione mondiale .

All'evento di giovedì,non ci sarà alcuna discussione sulle lezioni che possono essere apprese da Auschwitz e sulla svolta degli eventi negli anni '30,. Certamente non si parlerà della xenofobia e dell'islamofobia nei paesi occidentali, della  crisi globale dei rifugiati, delle  guerre in corso nel Sud Sudan e in Siria, dei  Rohingya che sono intrappolati nei campi profughi del Bangladesh, della paura del genocidio in Burundi e degli oppositori dei regimi in Camerun e in  Honduras. Né si parlerà della difficile situazione del popolo palestinese nei territori occupati, della responsabilità della Francia per il genocidio in Ruanda, della responsabilità della Gran Bretagna per la disastrosa spartizione dell'India e della tortura dei combattenti della resistenza nei campi di detenzione in Kenya, della responsabilità americana nel massacro di comunisti e di oppositori di sinistra in Indonesia o del genocidio commesso contro le popolazioni indigene del Canada, degli Stati Uniti e dell'Australia. Presumibilmente il presidente dell'Armenia non oserà avviare una discussione sull'incapacità di Israele di riconoscere il genocidio armeno e il presidente della Bosnia non oserà discutere dell'assistenza militare israeliana ai serbi e ai serbi bosniaci locali durante la guerra civile e il genocidio lì   avvenuto .
La mia famiglia è composta da sopravvissuti e  da vittime del campo di concentramento di Auschwitz, conseguentemente  non c'è posto per me a questo evento.

There is no place for me at the Yad Vashem whitewashing event

This Thursday, an event will be held at Yad Vashem to mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp. The list of invitees who confirmed their arrival - heads of state and senior representatives from most European countries, Canada, Australia and the US and even representatives of European royal families - is the realisation of Viktor Orban and Jair Bolsonaro's racist dream of a white world based on Judeo-Christian identity. With the exception of Argentina's president, there are no participants from Latin America, Africa or East Asia, and that’s not by chance.

After World War II, as a “lesson” of the Holocaust, the international community agreed on a series of conventions designed to enshrine the recognition and protection of basic human and civil rights, prevent genocide and discrimination, and protect refugees. These conventions were not perfect, but they gave hope that the vow of "never again" would not be in vain.

In practice, it didn’t quite happen from the outset. As far as the State of Israel and many of the Western countries whose representatives will attend the event at Yad Vashem were concerned, , civilians in the Global South were not fully eligible to benefit from the new conventions and protections of human and civil rights established as lessons from the Holocaust. For decades following the liberation of the Auschwitz camp, most of these countries not only remained silent once again in the face of a long line of massacres, rape, disappearances and mass torture, but actively assisted in these crimes. Some Western countries continued to administer colonial and neo-colonial regimes. Due to economic interests during the Cold War and confrontation with Communism, most Western countries sold weapons and supported military regimes that committed genocide and other crimes against humanity.

With the consent of the United States, Israel soon became a major weapons supplier to a series of murderous regimes in Central and South America, Africa and Southeast Asia. For example, Israel's important support for the preparation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide which came into effect in 1951, was replaced by support for Guatemala's military regime, and the genocide perpetrated against indigenous communities was carried out with Israeli weapons. Its support for the Convention to Eradicate all forms of Racial Discrimination and for significant civilian projects in the independent African countries was replaced by massive military support for the apartheid regime in South Africa.

In contrast to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, which over the years has developed a universalist interpretation of the lessons of the Holocaust, dealt with the annihilation and crimes against humanity perpetrated against other peoples, and even established a Genocide Prevention Institute, Yad Vashem (with a few notable exceptions among its researchers) avoided anything that did not concern the Jewish topic. Yad Vashem has for decades been a mandatory stopping post for dictators, murderers, racists and fascists, who come to Israel to close arms deals and gain legitimacy and a stamp of approval from a US ally. Therefore, there is no better place for collective whitewashing of all those countries' crimes against a substantial portion of the world's population than Yad Vashem.

At Thursday's event, there won’t be any discussion of the lessons that can be learned from Auschwitz and the turn of events during the 1930s,, certainly not in the context of the xenophobia and Islamophobia in Western countries, the global refugee crisis, the ongoing wars in South Sudan and Syria, the Rohingya that are trapped in refugee camps in Bangladesh, the fear of genocide in Burundi, and the scorched grounds of the regimes’ opponents in Cameroon and Honduras. Nor will they talk about the plight of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Territories, France's responsibility for the Rwandan genocide, Britain's responsibility for the disastrous partition of India and the torturing of resistance fighters in detention camps in Kenya, the American responsibility for the mass slaughter of Communists and Leftists in Indonesia or about the genocide committed against the indigenous populations of Canada, the US and Australia. Presumably, the President of Armenia will not dare initiate a discussion about Israel's failure to recognise the Armenian Genocide, and the President of Bosnia will not dare to discuss Israeli military assistance to Serbs and the local Bosnian Serbs during the civil-war and genocide there.

As a some whose family consists of survivors and victims of the Auschwitz camp, there is no place for me at this event.
