On Friday afternoon, 13 Oct. 2017, youths threw stones at soldiers in the Bab a-Zawiya area in the center of Hebron. The soldiers fired rubber-coated metal bullets and stun grenades and violently detained 18 youths, most of them minors. Soldiers routinely enter Hebron, disrupting residents’ lives and arresting youths. Jamal Abu S’ifan and ‘Imad Abu Shamsiyeh, both Hebron residents, captured on video the arrest of some of the boys and their detention at the checkpoint. L'esercito israeliano chiude l'accesso alla scuola per i bambini di Betania

GERUSALEMME - Il Patriarcato latino di Gerusalemme ha reso noto che i bambini della scuola materna di Betania, nell'area di Gerusalemme Est, “non potranno più raggiungere la scuola attraverso la piccola porta aperta nel Muro di separazione, adiacente alle aule”. La notizia è stata resa nota martedì, a seguito di un incontro tra il nunzio apostolico in Terra santa, mons. Antonio Franco, le suore comboniane che gestiscono la scuola e le autorità militari. La storia di questa piccola scuola frequentata da circa 50 bambini palestinesi dai villaggi intorno ad Azariya, la biblica Betania, era stata raccontata da numerosi media italiani e internazionali, dopo che la costruzione della barriera che percorre per oltre 700 chilometri la Cisgiordania aveva separato la scuola, collocata a Gerusalemme Est, sotto controllo israeliano, dal villaggio palestinese da cui provengono gli alunni.
