The generals and politicians who cheered for the war from its outset, in a frighteningly unified chorus, will again fill the television screens, this time in the role of admonishers, as pitiful Monday-morning quarterbacks. And we will forgive them their gleeful support for the war.

Il mondo, ma  non il loro paese. Con urgenza, in questo momento, senza ritardi, ma non il loro paese. La loro coscienza  è così bella, così  superiore e  così morale ai  loro occhi. A few weeks earlier, in the summer of 1939, members of the Haganah – the underground army of compulsory Palestinian Jews founded by the movement before independence – had murdered two men and a woman and injured a young girl and a toddler. All of them were innocent Arabs from the village of Lubya in Lower Galilee, who were shot at home in the middle of the night.
