Editoriale di Haaretz : UN GIURAMENTO DI FEDELTÀ ALLA SUPREMAZIA EBRAICA

Il processo di trasformazione dello Stato di Israele da una democrazia che soffre sotto il peso dell'Occupazione, in un'Occupazione che soffre il peso di una democrazia, sta avanzando lungo diversi percorsi. L'approvazione della Legge sullo Stato-Nazione, che ha gettato le basi per quell'etnocrazia ebraica, è stato il passo più importante compiuto finora in questa direzione.

La "riforma" giudiziaria dovrebbe sostituire l'infrastruttura del governo per garantire la supremazia ebraica e l'inferiorità araba in Israele, e gettare le basi giuridiche per l'annessione dei Territori Occupati e l'instaurazione di un regime di Apartheid (su un unico territorio con due sistemi giuridici, uno per gli ebrei e uno per gli arabi). Allo stesso tempo, Israele continuerebbe a promuovere test di lealtà per i suoi cittadini per individuare la popolazione minoritaria, limitarne il raggio d'azione, escluderla, declassarne lo stato civile e danneggiarne la rappresentanza politica.

Domenica scorsa, il Comitato Ministeriale per la Legislazione ha dato il suo assenso a un disegno di legge presentato dal Ministro degli Esteri Eli Levy che richiederebbe ai titolari di cariche che comportano la rappresentanza di Israele all'estero di dichiarare, come condizione per la loro nomina, che riconoscono Israele come Stato Ebraico e democratico. Ciò si aggiunge all'attuale dichiarazione che li impegna a "rimanere fedeli allo Stato di Israele e alle sue leggi, e ad adempiere onestamente e fedelmente a ogni obbligo che gli è stato affidato in quanto dipendenti dello Stato".

In altre parole, la lealtà allo Stato di Israele, come a qualsiasi Paese normale, non è sufficiente. Ora sarebbe richiesta la lealtà allo Stato come definita da chi è al potere in quel momento. Sarebbe soggetto all'interpretazione politica di coloro che sono stati eletti per quattro anni, ma che si considerano autorizzati a decidere per sempre il carattere del Paese.

Non cadiamo in errore: "Stato Ebraico" è un termine in codice per la discriminazione a favore della maggioranza ebraica, a scapito della minoranza araba. Non importa quanto la parola "democratico" sia attaccata alla parola "ebraico", non oscurerà il chiaro obiettivo del requisito nel disegno di legge: garantire l'ebraicità dei principali funzionari, o almeno la volontà degli arabi che cercano di rappresentare Israele di rispettare la supremazia ebraica del loro Paese e ostacolare coloro che non lo fanno. Un esempio è l'allora parlamentare di Meretz alla Knesset Ghaida Rinawie Zoabi, che l'allora Ministro degli Esteri, Yair Lapid, voleva nominare console a Shanghai.

In un Paese democratico normale e ben funzionante, basterebbe essere leali allo Stato e alle sue leggi. È così che è stato in Israele per molti anni. Ma non è così che sarebbe nel Paese che sognano i membri della coalizione razzista, nazionalista, messianica e antidemocratica ora al potere, e stanno lavorando per trasformare il loro sogno in realtà. Che sia ebreo o arabo, qualsiasi cittadino israeliano che abbia avuto preoccupazioni per l'uguaglianza nel Paese deve opporsi a questi terribili disegni di legge e al governo di distruzione che li sta legiferando.

An Oath of Loyalty to Jewish Supremacy

The process of turning the State of Israel from a democracy that is suffering under the burden of the occupation, into an occupation suffering the burden of a democracy, is advancing along several paths. Passage of the nation-state law, which laid the foundations for that Jewish ethnocracy, was the most important step taken so far in this direction.

The legal “reform” is due to replace the infrastructure of government to ensure Jewish supremacy and Arab inferiority in Israel, and to lay the legal groundwork for annexation of the territories and the establishment of an apartheid regime (on a single territory with two legal systems, one for Jews and one for Arabs). At the same time, Israel would continue to promote loyalty tests for its citizens to single out the minority population, limit its range of action, exclude it, downgrade its civil status and damage its political representation.

On Sunday, the Ministerial Committee for Legislation gave its assent to a bill introduced by Foreign Minister Eli Levy that would require holders of office involving representation of Israel abroad to declare, as a condition of their appointment, that they recognize Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. That’s in addition to the current declaration committing them “to remain loyal to the State of Israel and its laws, and to honestly and faithfully fulfill every obligation entrusted to me as an employee of the state.”

In other words, loyalty to the State of Israel, as to any normal country, isn’t sufficient. Now loyalty to the state as defined by those in power at the moment would be required. It would be subject to the political interpretation of those elected for four years, but who view themselves as entitled to decide the country’s character forever and ever.

Make no mistake: “Jewish state” is a code term for discrimination in favor of the Jewish majority, to the detriment of the Arab minority. No matter how the word “democratic” is stuck to the word “Jewish,” it won’t obscure the clear aim of the requirement in the bill – ensuring the Jewishness of major officeholders, or at least the willingness of Arabs seeking to represent Israel to respect their country’s Jewish supremacy and to stand in the way of those who don’t. An example is then-Meretz Knesset member Ghaida Rinawie Zoabi, whom the foreign minister at the time, Yair Lapid, wanted to appoint as consul in Shanghai.

In a well-functioning, normal democratic country, it would suffice to be loyal to the state and its laws. That’s how it’s been in Israel for many years. But that’s not how it would be in the country that members of the racist, nationalistic, messianic, antidemocratic coalition now in power dream of – and they’re working to turn their dream into reality. Whether Jewish or Arab, any Israeli citizen who has had concerns about equality in the country must oppose these terrible bills and the government of destruction that is legislating them.
