Non ci sono  dubbi, il Libano ha bisogno dell'aiuto israeliano e ne ha un disperato bisogno. Non solo la vita umana è andata perduta ieri, ma una grande quantità di attrezzature e cibo, valutati in miliardi. Questo in un paese ,che anche prima del disastro,si trovava in una terribile crisi 
economica :  crollo della valuta,  proteste sociali , fame,  il porto, quasi l'unico modo per importare merci, è totalmente fuori uso. Il porto di Haifa si trova a cento e qualcosa chilometri dal porto di Beirut. In una situazione normale , i camion israeliani sarebbero già carichi di cibo e medicine sulla strada per il confine.
Mmm, c'è comunque questa minuscola questione del conflitto :  abbiamo occupato parti di questo paese, l'abbiamo bombardato in una lunga serie di "operazioni" e guerre, abbiamo allestito prigioni dove sono stati imprigionati e torturati combattenti della resistenza libanese, abbiamo  deportato centinaia di migliaia di palestinesi  che vivono nei campi profughi 
 

Non rende più facile la situazione  per loro e non ci rende più facile fare la cosa giusta.
Quindi ora, se mi è permesso speculare, ci sono trattative segrete. Da una parte ci sono i capi disperati dello stato libanese, che vogliono aiuto ,ma che non vogliono essere umiliati pubblicamente per questo . Dall'altro lato, sfortunatamente,c'  è uno dei governi più cinici e senza scrupoli che Israele abbia mai conosciuto: l'ultima cosa a cui è interessato è assistere il suo vicino, e l'unica cosa a cui è interessato, è incidere la propaganda sul retro del  martoriato Libano. 

Chi sta facendo la mediazione? Le fughe nei media israeliani suggeriscono che sono le Nazioni Unite. Ogni israeliano con un cervello e un cuore dovrebbe chiedere: fallo ma senza giochi , senza fughe di notizie, senza giri, metti da parte la tua propaganda fottuta per una volta e agisci come un essere umano decente . Dai aiuto a queste persone morenti,senza chiedere credito o una  fotografica o un bacio sul culo o un titolo sul giornale. E tieni la bocca chiusa. Agisci come un vero mensch  una volta nella vita per l'amor di Dio, prova.

Let there be no doubt, Lebanon needs Israeli aid, and desperately needs it. Not only was human life lost yesterday but a great deal of equipment and food, valued at billions. This in a country that even before the disaster was in a terrible economic crisis, with its currency collapsing, social protests, and hunger. Not only that - the seaport, the almost the only way to import goods is totally out of action. The port of Haifa is located one hundred and something kilometres from the port of Beirut. In a sane state of affairs - Israeli trucks would be already loaded with food and medicine on their way to the border.

Mmm, there is however this tiny little matter of the conflict in which we occupied parts of this country, bombed it in a long series of "operations" and wars, set up prisons in which Lebanese resistance fighters were imprisoned and tortured, deported hundreds of thousands of Palestinians living in refugee camps, and inter alia killed over 30,000 Lebanese, Syrians and Palestinians. It does not make it easier for them and does not make it easier for us to do the right thing.

So now, if I’m permitted to speculate, there are secret negotiations. On one side are the desperate heads of the Lebanese state, who want help but who do not want to be publicly humiliated for it and portrayed as begging the former occupier for that assistance. On the other side, unfortunately, is one of the most cynical and unscrupulous governments Israel has ever known: the last thing it is interested in is assisting its neighbour, and the only thing it is interested in, is in scoring propaganda on the backs of battered Lebanon. Who is doing the mediating? The leaks in the Israeli media suggest that it is the UN. Every Israeli with both a brain and a heart should demand: Do it but with no funny games, no leaks, no spins, put your effing propaganda aside for once - and act like decent human beings. Give these dying people help, without asking for credit or a photo opportunity or a kiss on the arse or a headline in the paper. And keep your mouth shut. Act like a proper mensch [decent hum being] once in your life for God's sake, give it a try.

שלא יהיה ספק, לבנון צריכה סיוע ישראלי, וצריכה אותו נואשות. לא רק חיי אדם אבדו אתמול אלא ציוד ומזון רב מאוד, שערכו מיליארדים, במדינה שעוד לפני האסון נמצאה במשבר כלכלי נוראי, מטבע קורס, מחאה חברתית ורעב. לא זו בלבד - הנמל הימי, הדרך הכמעט היחידה לייבוא סחורות: הושבתה. נמל חיפה נמצא מאה ומשהו קילומטר מנמל ביירות. במצב עניינים שפוי - משאיות ישראליות היו כבר עמוסות מזון ותרופות בדרך ממנו לכיוון הגבול.
אממה, יש את העניין הפעוט הזה של הסכסוך במסגרתו כבשנו חלקים מהמדינה הזו, הפצצנו אותה בשורה ארוכה של ״מבצעים״ ומלחמות, הקמנו בה בתי סוהר בהם נכלאו ועונו לוחמי ההתנגדות הלבנונית, גירשנו לגבולותיה מאות אלפי פלסטינים החיים במחנות פליטים, והרגנו על הדרך למעלה מ-30 אלף לבנונים סורים ופלסטינים. זה לא מקל עליה ולא מקל עלינו לעשות את הדבר הנכון.
אז עכשיו - אם מותר להמר - יש משא ומתן חשאי. בצד אחד נמצאים ראשיה הנואשים של המדינה הלבנונית, שרוצים עזרה ולא רוצים להתבזות פומבית עבורה ולהצטייר כמי שמתחננים אליה מול הכובש-לשעבר. בצד השני, לרוע המזל, נמצאת אחת הממשלות הציניות וחסרת המצפון ביותר שידעה ישראל - שהדבר האחרון שמעניין אותה לסייע, והדבר היחיד שמעניין אותה זה לעשות סיבוב הסברה על הגב של לבנון המוכה. מי מתווך? ההדלפות בתקשורת הישראלית אומרות שהאו״ם. כל ישראלי שיש לו שכל ולב צריך לדרוש: בלי משחקים, בלי הדלפות, בלי ספינים, שימו את ההסברה המזויינת פעם אחת בצד - ותתנהגו כמו בני אדם. תנו לאנשים הגוועים האלה עזרה, בלי לבקש קרדיט, תמונה, נשיקה בתחת, כותרת בעיתון, ותסתמו את הפה. תהיו מענטשים פעם אחת בחיים שלכם למען השם, תנסו
