Four Palestinians were killed Friday by Israeli military fire during
protests at the Gaza-Israel border, as was another in clashes in the
West Bank, Palestinian authorities said. Israeli army helicopters and
fighter jets meanwhile attacked three Hamas positions in the northern
Gaza
Three of the Palestinians who were killed at the
border between Israel and Gaza were named as 27-year-old Muhammad Khaled
'Abd al-Nabi; 22-year-old Ahmed Said Abu Libdah; and 23-year-old Aish
Sha'ath.
Clashes
in the West Bank, in a village close to Ramallah, left nine wounded,
including at least two in critical condition, and killed one.
Organizers of the
weekly protests at the Gaza-Israel border had called on Gaza residents
to demonstrate en masse on Friday under the slogan "Gaza will not
surrender."
Around 16,000 people participated in the border
clashes, the IDF said in a statement, adding they threw stones at troops
as well as fire-bombs and granades, while also burning tyres. In two
occasions protestors managed to breach the fence for a short period of
time, the statement added.
Earlier
Friday, London-based Arabic-language newspaper Al-Hayat reported Egypt
reached a short-term agreement between Israel and Hamas to ease violence
along their common border.
A delegation from the
Egyptian intelligence service that has been shuttling between Gaza and
Ramallah and which has also been meeting with Israeli officials achieved
an understanding regarding a halt to the violence by Palestinian
demonstrators in Gaza along the border fence with Israel, in exchange
for an easing of the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip, according to
the report.
The protests along the border, which have frequently involved tens of thousands of demonstrators, began in March.

The Palestinian Authority is thwarting the activities of a real estate company after its owner publicly criticized Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Seven weeks ago, the Palestinian Land Authority suspended the processing of a project for registering and parceling private land purchased by the Palestinian-Canadian Sabawi family. The family is the majority owner of a real estate company listed in the Palestinian stock exchange, but over 1,500 also holds stocks in the company. Through an unofficial channel, the company learned that the director of the Palestinian Land Authority was acting in accordance with direct orders from Abbas’ presidential bureau.
