A 78-year-old Palestinian man was killed by Israeli fire that targeted the central Gaza Strip on Tuesday, Gaza's Health Ministry said.
According to a
statement released by the ministry, the man, identified as Haj Ibrahim
Alaruki, was hit after Israeli troops opened fire toward civilian homes
in the center of the strip, near a refugee camp.
Earlier, a hospital
in Gaza reported that the man arrived at the hospital with a gunshot
wound in his back and that his body was sent directly to an autopsy.
The Israeli army said that it was looking into the report.

Earlier Tuesday,
Palestinian media reported that clashes were taking place in the center
of the Strip, near the city of Deir al-Balah. According to the reports,
the Israeli army fired hand grenades and used live fire against
Palestinians who were demonstrating.
Meanwhile,
several Palestinians crossed the border fence and advanced toward
Israeli territory, where they tried to set on fire an Israel Defense
Forces sniper post that was unmanned at the time. They left a
Palestinian flag at the post and then crossed back into the Strip.
On Monday, Gaza's Health Ministry said that 37 Palestinians were wounded by Israeli military fire during clashes on the Israel-Gaza border. A total of 93 Palestinians have sustained injuries, the ministry added.
