Two children can live just a few minutes away from each other, and yet live in totally contrasting realities. How is it that the law will protect one child, but will leave the other exposed and defenseless?
It’s
been 48 years since 1967. Decades of rule over another people, of
trampling its rights in all spheres of life amounts to a permanent
situation, not the temporary one that is the very definition of
occupation.
This “temporary” state cannot go on forever, but Israel’s government does not believe the occupation must end. We do.

Violent nighttime arrests, preventing children from meeting with their
parents, unrecorded interrogations, threats and humiliation – these are
just a small part of the daily reality facing Palestinian children
growing up in the Occupied Territories.
The Law of Occupation imposes restrictions on the arrest and detention of children living under occupation. And yet the Israeli military regulations disregard many of these protections. While recent years have indeed seen some improvements, there are still not enough protections for children in the OPT.
ACRI recently published a handbook on the rights of minors in the Occupied Territories during arrest, detention and interrogation by the IDF or police: http://ow.ly/NYFe5
