An Israeli man, 40, and his 11-year-old daughter were wounded after a firebomb was thrown at their car in the West Bank settlement of Ma'ale Shomron. The attack came after several weeks of relative calm in the area.
Ayala Shapira was hit in the face and upper body, suffering from third-degree burns on 50 percent of her body. She was brought to Sheba Medical Center in serious condition, and is currently unconscious and on a respirator. Her father, Avner Shapira is said to be in light condition.
The hospital said she remains sedated on a respirator, and is continuing to fight for her life. She is expected to be moved to the pediatric intensive care unit in the coming hours.
Magen David Adom personnel who arrived on the scene said upon arrival, "the girl's face was covered in soot and was in much pain. She was immediately given medical attention with the help of the IDF medical team."
Following the incident, IDF forces entered the village close to the site of the attack to search for the person who threw the firebomb. The army additionally placed a checkpoint at the entrance of the village.
Since October, there has been a series of lone wolf attacks by Palestinians against Israelis. Earlier this month, two Israelis were wounded in a stabbing attack in a supermarket near the West Bank settlement of Ma'ale Adumim.
An Israeli civilian was lightly wounded in a stabbing attack at the Gush Etzion Junction, and an Israeli bus traveling near the Shilo junction was attacked and sustained damage on December 1.
A 26-year-old woman was killed and two people were wounded in a stabbing attack near the West Bank settlement of Alon Shvut in late November.
