La relazione dell'IDF su Mohammed al-Dura è una dannosa propaganda

Il rapporto, intitolato "la copertura della stazione televisiva francese France di 2 sulla  vicenda di al-Dura Mohammed, i  risultati e le implicazioni", è stata consegnato   al primo ministro Benjamin Netanyahu 13 anni dopo gli avvenimenti in esso descritti  rendendo la sua presentazione oggi surreale.  In occasione della conferenza  Netanyahu ha recitato slogan come  "una campagna di delegittimazione diretta  contro Israele" e il Ministro  Yuval Steinitz, che non ha partecipato alla preparazione della relazione, ha borbottato  qualche parola su "accusa del sangue" e tutti i presenti si sono sentiti  nel giusto.  La persona che ha voluto  la commissione  e ne è diventato  anche il  presidente, è Yossi Kuperwasser. Egli era l'ufficiale dell' Israel Defense Forces GOC del  Comando Sud di  Israele e in seguito responsabile della ricerca e analisi per l'intelligence dell'IDF  . Egli è noto per le  campagne  di pubbliche relazioni contro i palestinesi. Bene o male la sua attenzione alla vicenda al-Dura è diventata  un'ossessione, che fa sospettare  che ci potrebbe essere un conflitto di interessi.Il  lavoro della commissione è  estremamente meticoloso. È dubbio che  un centinaio di persone in Israele e in tutto il mondo  abbiano   sufficientemente familiarità con tutti gli intricati dettagli dell'evento  e siano  in grado di seguire le argomentazioni contorte degli   autori del rapporto. Inoltre il documento non contiene nuovi elementi di prova che possano incidere in modo significativo sulla  versione accettata. Anche la nuova interpretazione  sembra infondata. Ad esempio, il dottor Ricardo Nachman, vice direttore del National Forensic Institute di Israele, ha determinato , basandosi  sulla scarsa qualità del  video, che Mohammed al-Dura non è stato colpito e ucciso in quell'occasione.  La perizia allegata alla relazione si legge come un articolo di un critico cinematografico e non di  un patologo. "Le scene finali  dove il ragazzo alza  la testa e le braccia,si porta   la mano sul   viso  guardando in lontananza non sono compatibili con gli ultimi istanti di vita , ma sembrano  movimenti volontari", ha scritto Nachman. "Non  bisogna  essere un esperto per vedere ciò. "  Sembra  che  il rapporto sia stato scritto  solo per Israele. Le prove e gli argomenti che sono stati presentati potrebbero convincere solo chi è  già convinto. Il comitato non ha potuto presentare alcuna "pistola fumante"  che  dimostri   che il 25enne al-Dura stia prendendo  il sole su una spiaggia di Gaza. Non ci  si avvicina nemmeno. Se  tale rapporto  preusppone  di cambiare la narrazione globalmente accettata dopo 13 anni , il tentativo è simile a cercare di rimettere il dentifricio nel tubo.  Il rapporto sembra essere  una campagna di vendetta lanciata dallo  Stato di Israele  contro un  singolo giornalista francese:  Charles Enderlin, che per primo ha riportato la morte di Mohammed al-Dura. I membri del Comitato hanno cercato di colpire  Enderlin, un Ebreo israeliano che vive qui da oltre 30 anni con tutti i problemi di Israele e del popolo ebraico.  Il comitato è andato  oltre e ha accennato alla responsabilità del Enderlin per la strage di  Tolosa. "La sua relazione ha ispirato molti terroristi e ha contribuito alla demonizzazione di Israele e  ad accrescere l'antisemitismo nei paesi musulmani e occidentali . In alcuni casi le implicazioni sono stati  mortali".

Il danno provocato  da questa relazione potrebbe essere maggiore di qualsiasi  dubbia utilità . La sua pubblicazione, accompagnata da una campagna internazionale di pubbliche relazioni,,minaccia solo di risvegliare altre problematiche  .Infatti  se la stampa internazionale riprende il rapporto, ciò potrebbe portare ad una rinnovata discussione sui bambini palestinesi feriti    durante le operazioni dell'IDF.

Publishing the report 13 years after the incident took place and accompanying it with a government PR campaign is not only surreal, but could backfire by awaking sleeping dogs.

The report on the investigation of the Mohammed al-Dura affair is probably one of the least relevant documents written by the Israeli government in recent years.
The report, entitled "French TV station France 2's coverage of the Mohammed al-Dura affair, its results and implications", was presented to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu 13 years after the events it describes took place, making its submission today surreal.
In its wake, Netanyahu recited slogans about “a campaign of de-legitimization directed against Israel” and Strategic and Intelligence Affairs Minister Yuval Steinitz, who had no part in preparing the report, muttered a few words about "blood libel", and everyone present felt very righteous.
The person who advocated for setting up the committee, who also became its chairman, was Yossi Kuperwasser,
Yossi Kuperwasser, director general of the Strategic and Intelligence Affairs Ministry, advocated for the establishment of an investigative committee and became its chairman. Kuperwasser, who was the intelligence officer at the Israel Defense Forces GOC Southern Command and later head of research and analysis for IDF intelligence, has been waging a 13-year-long public relations campaign against the Palestinians. For better or worse, his attention to the al-Dura affair became an obsession, leading to a suspicion that there might be a conflict of interest.
The result of the committee’s work was a document for the extremely meticulous. It is doubtful whether even a hundred people in Israel or worldwide are sufficiently familiar with all the intricate details of the incident to be able to follow the convoluted arguments by the report's authors. Furthermore, the document contains no new evidence that might significantly impact the accepted version. Even the new interpretation given to some of the old findings seems groundless. For example, Dr. Ricardo Nachman, deputy director of Israel’s National Forensic Institute, determined, based on viewing poor quality video footage, that Mohammed al-Dura wasn’t shot and killed in that incident.
The expert opinion attached to the report reads like an article by a movie critic and not by a pathologist. “The final scenes, in which the boy is seen raising his head and arms, bringing his hand to his face and looking into the distance are not compatible with death throes, but seem like voluntary movements," wrote Nachman. “One doesn’t need to be an expert to see that."
It seems as though the report was written for use within Israel alone. The evidence and arguments that were presented might convince the already convinced, but no more than that. The committee could not present any "smoking gun" evidence showing the 25 year old al-Dura sunbathing on a Gaza beach. Not even close. Any thought of getting such a report to change the globally accepted narrative after 13 years is akin to trying to put the toothpaste back into the tube.
The report also appears to be a campaign of revenge launched by the State of Israel against a single French journalist, Charles Enderlin, who first reported Mohammed al-Dura's death. Committee members tried to saddle Enderlin, an Israeli Jew who has been living here for over 30 years, with all of Israel's problems and those of the Jewish people.
The committee went even further and hinted at Enderlin’s responsibility for the massacre of Jewish schoolchildren in Toulouse. “His report inspired many terrorists and contributed to the demonization of Israel and to the rise of anti-Semitism in Muslim and Western countries”, wrote committee members. “In some cases, the implications were deadly”.
The damage done by this report could be greater than any doubtful utility. Its publication, accompanied by an international public relations campaign only threatens to awaken sleeping dogs, for if the international press picks up on the report, it could lead to a renewed discussion on Palestinian children getting hurt during IDF operations.

Il primo ministro Benjamin Netanyahu ha ricevuto un report dal titolo "Il Rapporto della   rete televisiva France 2 sul caso di Mohammed al-Dura, i suoi risultati e ramificazioni ". Secondo il gruppo dei diritti umani B'Tselem, 951 bambini e ragazzi sono stati uccisi da Israele in Cisgiordania e a  Gaza tra il 2000 e il 2008, eppure nessun comitato governo è stato mai istituito per indagare le circostanze della loro morte. Solo nel caso di al-Dura è stata una convocata una  commissione .

Al-Dura divenne un simbolo, un'icona internazionale del bambino-ucciso  da parte delle Forze di Difesa israeliane  dopo che France 2 e il suo  corrispondente locale, Charles Enderlin, hanno documentato l'uccisione del ragazzo in tempo reale. Da allora  alcune persone  di tutto il mondo si sono  messi ossessivamente a indagare  sulle circostanze della sua morte, nel tentativo di dimostrare che l'IDF non era responsabile o  che al-Dura non era stato ucciso . Questo non è stato sufficiente, tuttavia, per il governo israeliano  che ha istituito una propria commissione di inchiesta . Il rapporto non porta alcuna nuova prova che potrebbe alterare in modo significativo la versione accettata :  al-Dura è stato ucciso dai soldati israeliani.
La commissione  non ha mai contattato Enderlin  e ha ignorato il fatto che Jamal sia  stato ricoverato ad Amman  dove è stato operato per le ferite.
Sarebbe stato meglio se questo comitato non fosse mai  stato istituito. L'ossessione per il caso al-Dura avrebbe dovuto essere lasciata a una manciata di ricercatori che rappresentano solo se stessi, invece di diventare un problema pagato dai contribuenti israeliani   . Questo rapporto solleva una questione più dolorosa: i tanti giovani uccisi dai soldati israeliani durante la seconda intifada.

Se il governo avesse deciso di indagare su questo, forse, sarebbe stato ragionevole includere un capitolo sulla vicenda al-Dura. Ma concentrarsi solo su di lui è mera propaganda . Non  migliorerà  in alcun modo  l'immagine problematica di Israele di essere responsabile della morte di troppi bambini.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received a report on Sunday from a government investigative committee working under the auspices of the International Relations and Strategic Affairs Ministry, entitled “The Report by French Television Network France 2 on the Case of Mohammed al-Dura, its Results and Ramifications.” According to the human rights group B’Tselem, 951 children and teens were killed by Israel in the West Bank and Gaza between 2000 and 2008, yet no government committee was ever established to investigate the circumstances of their deaths. Only in the al-Dura case was such a committee convened.

Al-Dura became a symbol, an international icon of child-killing by the Israel Defense Forces, after France 2 and its local correspondent, Charles Enderlin, documented the boy’s killing in real time. Since then, certain individuals around the world have been obsessively investigating the circumstances of his death in an effort to prove that the IDF wasn’t responsible, or even that al-Dura wasn’t killed at all. This wasn’t enough, however, for the Israeli government, which established its own panel.

The report doesn’t bring any new evidence that would significantly alter the accepted version of events − that al-Dura was killed by IDF soldiers. “There is no evidence that Jamal [the boy’s father, who was wounded in the incident] or the boy were hurt,” says the abstract at the beginning of the report. The report’s authors arrive at that dubious conclusion using a collection of circumstantial evidence, some of it barely serious, like the impressions of an Israeli pathologist who watched the video.

The committee never contacted Enderlin, and it ignored the fact that Jamal was hospitalized in Amman, where he underwent surgery and other  treatment for his wounds. The report might raise some questions, but it comes to no clear conclusions.

It would have been better had this committee never been established. The obsession with the al-Dura case should have been left to a handful of investigators who represent only themselves, instead of becoming an issue that consumed government resources. This report doesn’t lift the fog off this case, if there ever was any. Instead, it raises a more painful issue: the many young people killed by IDF soldiers during the second intifada.

If the government had chosen to investigate that, perhaps it would have been reasonable to include a chapter on the al-Dura incident. But focusing only on him is mere propaganda that won’t in any way improve Israel’s problematic image of being responsible for too many children’s deaths

Israele: Mohammed al-Dura non è mai morto

Sia France 2 (e il giornalista Charles Enderlin, autore del filmato) che la famiglia al-Dura si sono subito detti pronti a collaborare ad un'inchiesta indipendente che indaghi sull'incidente. "Dal giorno della morte ad oggi, France 2 ha sempre mostrato la volontà di partecipare ad un procedimento legale ufficiale, secondo gli standard internazionali", ha fatto sapere la tv francese, mentre il giornalista Enderlin ha riportato che mai nessuno, da parte israeliana, lo ha contattato. Non solo: France 2 si è detta pronta ad aiutare la famiglia al-Dura nella riesumazione del corpo del piccolo Mohammed.

Il padre Jamal ha infatti fatto sapere ieri di voler riesumare il corpo del bambino, sottoporlo ad autopsia e al test del DNA: "Vogliono davvero un'inchiesta internazionale? Israele la vuole? Non dico la gente di Israele, ma il governo e l'IDF", ha detto ieri Jamal al-Dura all'Army Radio, aggiungendo di aver più volte contattato le autorità israeliane in merito all'inchiesta senza però ricevere alcuna risposta. "L'Autorità Palestinese ha i proiettili israeiani - ha continuato Jamal - Mi chiedo perché Israele abbia distrutto quel muro dopo l'incidente. Volevano cancellare tutto. Mohammed non è solo mio figlio, è il figlio di tutta la Palestina". Nena News
