Uno dei blindati è riuscito ad aprirsi un varco sparando e ha puntato minacciosamente verso le prime case israeliane. "Poteva verificarsi una tragedia", ha commentato unafonte militare israeliana. Il blindato è stato allora centrato da un velivolo israeliano e tre miliziani che erano a bordo sono rimasti uccisi. Un secondo blindato, che si trovava ancora in territorio egiziano, è esploso a breve distanza dal confine. Nel frattempo a tutti gli abitanti israeliani della zona è stato ordinato di chiudersi nelle proprie abitazioni, nella sensazione che sul terreno ci siano ancora miliziani islamici armati. Ad accrescere la tensione è giunto il ritrovamento in quella zona di un'automobile israeliana abbandonata e colpita da proiettili: da qui l'allarme per un possibile rapimento di un civile israeliano, che finora non ha però avuto conferma
Proprio ieri a Gaza era stato rilasciato da Hamas un importante esponente di un gruppo legato alla galassia mondiale della Jihad, Abu el Walid al-Maqdisi. Un anno fa l'attivista italiano Vittorio Arrigoni aveva pagato con la vita il tentativo di seguaci dello sceicco salafita di imporre a Hamas uno 'scambio di prigionieri' fra il volontario italiano e il predicatore fondamentalista. Stasera dunque il braccio armato di al-Qaida al confine fra Gaza e il Sinai egiziano cerca di dettare ad Israele, a Hamas e all'Egitto nuove regole di comportamento. Lo stato di massima allerta è stato proclamato stasera nella zona del Neghev vicina alla striscia di Gaza in seguito al lancio di decine di razzi palestinesi contro insediamenti civili israeliani. Non si ha finora notizia di vittime.

CAIRO (Reuters) -- An Egyptian security source said on Sunday the Rafah border crossing with Gaza had been closed indefinitely, the state news agency MENA reported, after an attack on a police station in Sinai killed at least 15 officers.
"A security official announced on Sunday evening that the Rafah land port had been closed for cases of travel and arrivals indefinitely. This comes in the wake of the attack by gunmen on a border checkpoint in Rafah in Sinai," MENA said.
Gunmen killed at least 15 Egyptian policemen and seized an army tank in the assault on a police station near the border with Israel.
Gaza's Hamas rulers condemned the attack, which took place near the border crossing where the Egyptian, Israeli and Gazan frontiers converge.
"Hamas condemns this ugly crime which killed a number of Egyptian soldiers and extends its deep condolences to the families of the victims and to the leadership and the people of Egypt," the Islamist group said in a statement.
Hamas closed the tunnels to Egypt through which it smuggles goods to avoid an Israel's blockade. Residents said the atmosphere was tense.
MENA quoted an Egyptian security official as saying the attack was staged by militants who infiltrated from Gaza through tunnels and others from the Sinai region.
"Jihadist elements who infiltrated from Gaza through tunnels, in collaboration with jihadist elements from the regions of Al-Mahdia and Jebel El Halal, attacked a border point on the eastern border," the official was quoted as saying by the MENA news agency.
The official said the militants tried to escape to Gaza using two cars after the attack, but were "dealt with", MENA said, without adding any further details.
The attack, which saw Israeli aircraft destroy a vehicle used by the gunmen to try to storm the fortified border, was the first major security emergency for Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi, who summoned his military council.
Israel has previously accused Palestinian militants in Gaza of involvement in militant activity in Sinai, where insecurity has spread since the US-aligned Egyptian president, Hosni Mubarak, was toppled by a citizen revolt last year.
Sunday's attack will force Egypt and Israel to engage at a time when both are still in the process of recalibrating their relationship after Mursi, an Islamist, assumed office at the end of June. It may also test Egypt's relationship with Hamas if it is shown that Palestinian gunmen were involved.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: "Thanks to the determined action of the (Israeli army) and the Shin Bet (internal security agency), a big attack against Israeli civilians was prevented."
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak called for "determined Egyptian action" to "prevent terror in Sinai".
"Elements of a jihad organisation drove SUVs into one of the checkpoints south of the Rafah border," Egyptian state television said. It said 15 security forces personnel had been killed and at least 7 wounded.
It was not clear how many attackers were involved.
"There was an exchange of fire with the attackers who seized an army tank and used it to make a second attack in Rafah," the Egyptian television report said.
Israeli military spokeswoman Avital Leibovich said gunmen had seized two vehicles. One exploded and the second was destroyed by Israeli aircraft.
Fortified border triangle
In a statement, a spokesman for Netanyahu said: "The terrorists who killed the Egyptian security men seized two Egyptian military vehicles and tried to storm the Israeli border."
He said the vehicle that tried to breach the border was destroyed at the Kerem Shalom crossing into the southern Gaza Strip, a military zone where the borders of Israel, Egypt and Gaza intersect.
A television journalist based in North Sinai said the area was sealed off by Egyptian security forces, who had blocked the road from the main town of el-Arish in the direction of the Gaza border crossing at Rafah.
Earlier on Sunday, an Israeli air strike killed a Palestinian gunman from a radical Islamist group and wounded another as they rode a motorbike in southern Gaza near the Egyptian border.
It was not immediately possible to confirm whether the incidents were linked.

Sinai attack proves Islamist terrorists are targeting Egyptians as well as Israelis
Sunday night's attack of the Egyptian military post and cross-border incursion was the largest attack carried out in Sinai by Global Jihad operatives against both an Egyptian target and an Israeli target.
Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi called for a meeting of the Supreme Military Council to discuss steps to be taken, following the killing of the Egyptian soldiers.
The attack took place while the Egyptians were breaking the daily Ramadan fast. Two armed groups whose members are identified with Al-Qaida raided the post, a few kilometers from Kibbutz Kerem Shalom, in two off-road vehicles.
They fired RPG rockets and machine guns at the position, one of the Egyptian army's key posts on the border. There were an estimated 20 soldiers at the post at the time of the attack. It is believed th attackers killed approximately 15 soldiers and abducted the others.
On Sunday morning an Israeli aircraft fired on a motorcycle carrying two activists from one of the terror groups active in Gaza. A 22-year-old member of the extremist Salafi sect, Eyad Nadi Okel, was killed in the attack. Another man, Ahmed Sayid Ismayil, identified with Global Jihad, was injured.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the attack had taken place and said Ismayil had been involved in the attack on the Israel-Egypt border about six weeks ago, which killed an Israeli Defense Ministry contractor, Saeed Fashafshe, 35, from Haifa.
According to the IDF, Okel and Ismayil were planning to carry out an attack on the Israel-Egypt border, together with other Global Jihad operatives in the Gaza Strip and Sinai.
Despite the fact that the attack on the motorcycle and the attack in Sinai were close in terms of time, and that Global Jihad operatives were involved in both, sources in the IDF denied any connection between the two incidents.
Only a few days ago, the Counter-Terrorism Bureau in the Prime Minister's Office issued a warning that terrorists were planning to kidnap Israelis traveling in Sinai. But Sunday's attack illustrates the motivation of these Jihadist terror groups to strike not only Israelis, but also Egyptian security forces.
In recent months there have been almost daily incidents between the Egyptian army and armed members of Jihadist groups, and there have been repeated reports of Egyptian soldiers shot by these extremists, who belong to cells identified with Al-Qaida coming from all over the Middle East.
The two terrorists responsible for the attack that killed Fashafshe came from Saudi Arabia and Egypt. There are reportedly Al-Qaida forces in Sinai from Yemen, Iraq, Syria and other Arab and Muslim countries. These groups are supported by the local Bedouin and it cannot be ruled out that Sinai Bedouin took part in planning and executing Sunday's attack. Meanwhile, various other terror groups in the Gaza Strip are assisting them and smuggling arms and goods into the Strip.
About 1,000 soldiers belonging to the Egyptian Border Police are currently stationed in Sinai, as are other Egyptian soldiers, but their focus is on guarding the strip of coast and the roads leading to the main northern Sinai cities of El Arish and Rafah. They do not belong to elite units and are not trained to face terrorists. Their posts are poorly protected and they face Sinai, rather than Israel, out of fear of attack from Bedouin gangs or Islamicists. In many ways the neglect of the Egyptian government, which began back in the time of Mubarak, has helped turn Sinai into a no-man's land controled by Global Jihad groups and armed Bedouin.
Sunday's attack was unusual in its daring. It is clear that the group that carried it out wanted first and foremost to cause mass casualties among Egyptian soldiers, and apparently, to deter soldiers from serving in the area. Striking Israel was apparently a secondary goal.
The challenge facing Israeli and Egyptian security forces is that such attacks may continue because of the security situation in Sinai, and the almost complete lack of real obstacles.
The presence of the Egyptian army is meager, and perhaps because of the fear that the Egyptian army will be accused of collaborating with Israel, its commanders are not eager to take aggressive action against Global Jihad groups in Sinai.
The question that remains after Sunday night's attack is how ties between Egypt and Israel will be affected by the incident, in light of the already weak relations with the new Egyptian government.
Morsi recently said he did not want there to be an impression of cooperation with Israel; nor did he want to strengthen security ties, due to the fear that Egyptian public opinion would be against both those moves.
Morsi, the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, may have no choice but to join forces with the Egyptian military leadership, in order to take on the terror groups in Sinai, which have become a real threat to Egypt.
It is unclear how the Egyptian army will respond, and whether it will continue to avoid engagement with the terrorists. But it seems that Egyptian public opinion will demand action following the attack in Sinai.
It also remains to be seen how the attack will impact the security situation between Gaza and Israel. For now, it does not seem that Hamas or any other group in the Strip is interested in an escalation with Israel.
Sunday's incident ended successfully as far as Israel was concerned, without injuries or the terrorists crossing the border. Yet it is a painful reminder of the complicated situation Israel has on its southern border, as well as its northern border, while Israeli public opinion is preoccupied with Iran.
Today, something unprecedented happened along the Egypt-Israel border. A group of Sinai Islamists, possibly including local Bedouins and foreign Al Qaeda elements, attacked a major Egyptian border post near the Kerem Shalom crossing. They killed 16 Egyptian police officers who were preparing to break their Ramadan fast, then stole two armored vehicles, both of which sought to penetrate Israeli territory. One vehicle broke through the barrier and was attacked by the IAF and destroyed. The Israeli army had been warned in advance by the Shin Bet and was prepared for the border attack. No such luck for the Egyptian police.
Since Mubarak’s overthrow, Islamists have reportedly assumed control of portions of Sinai, making alliances with disaffected local Bedouin. Last summer, they attacked the southern Israeli city of Eilat and killed seven Israelis. Five Egyptian police were also killed by Israeli forces who entered Egyptian territory in hot pursuit of the attackers. This aspect of the attack was papered over by both sides out of fear it could rile Islamist and Egyptian nationalists and provoke further anti-Israel sentiment and violence.
But the Sinai militants have never attacked Egyptian security forces before in such a complex and deadly assault. It means that the Al Qaeda forces there are stepping up their fight against the new Egyptian regime. They have inadvertently dragged Hamas into the fight as well as Israel has attempted to blame it and Gazan militants for enabling it. Hamas reacted strongly, condemned it, closed down the smuggling tunnels (which will punish anyone on either side who smuggled anything into or out of Gaza to aid this attack), and said in no uncertain terms that it would never strike Egyptian personnel and would never use any territory but its own to launch assaults on Israel.
While I’ve dismissed much of the wild bitching and moaning from Bibi Netanyahu about the perils that the Arab Spring poses for Israel, one thing is true: there are forces out there seeking to capitalize on the Arab Spring in places like the Sinai and Syria who may exploit the unrest to open new fronts in the fight against Israeli Occupation. Ehud Barak has warned that Al Qaeda forces in Syria might try to storm the Golan border. Haaretz’s IDF stenographer, Avi Issacharoff repeated this warning with a vastly overstated estimate of the presence of Islamists inside the Syrian rebellion. Tonight, we’ve seen the Sinai militants do precisely what Barak warned the Syrian militants intended to do.
8 Ore di guerra al confine tra Gaza, Egitto e Israele Tutto è cominciato dopo il raid aereo israeliano che ha ucciso un palestinese di Gaza. Un commando ha assaltato un posto di polizia egiziano nel Sinai facendo 16 morti. Gaza, 06 agosto 2012, Nena News - Le luci del giorno hanno messo fine ad una notte di tensione altissima lungo le linee tra la Striscia di Gaza e Israele e nella vicina penisola del Sinai.
Tutto è cominciato dopo un raid aereo israeliano, ieri pomeriggio, nei pressi di Rafah, a sud di Gaza, in cui è rimasto ucciso Ahmad Ismail, un palestinese presunto membro di un gruppo salafita, che, secondo Israele, stava preparando un attentato.
A questo attacco le cellule armate palestinesi hanno risposto da Gaza con colpi di mortaio e lanci di razzi verso il Neghev.
Nelle stesse ore nel confinante Sinai una postazione militare egiziana è stata presa d'assalto da un commando jihadista che ha ucciso 15 poliziotti e catturato due blindati. Uno degli automezzi corazzati ha poi sconfinato in territorio israeliano dirigendosi verso il villaggio di Kerem Shalom ma è stato centrato da un aereo ed i tre a bordo sono morti. L'altro è esploso prima di entrare in Israele.
Oggi il settore sul versante egiziano di Rafah e' completamente circondato dall'esercito egiziano per evitare che i membri del commando autori della strage di poliziotti, riescano a fuggire. Lo riferisce il sito egiziano Ahram Online. Sono in azione anche elicotteri da combattimento e ranger per cercare di catturare i jihadisti. Il presidente egiziano, Mohamed Morsi, ieri aveva subito convocato una riunione urgente col Consiglio militare e ha definito l'attacco «vigliacco», sottolineando che non «rimarrà impunito» e che i suoi autori «la pagheranno cara».
L'accaduto ha confermato l'instabilità che regna nel Sinai dove i movimenti jihadisti si saldano con le rivendicazioni dei beduini. In gran parte inutili si sono rivelati, sino ad oggi, i tentativi delle autorità egiziane di riprendere il controllo della situazione. Nena News
