Sabato, Malek Issa, nove anni di Isawiya a Gerusalemme Est ,è stato colpito in faccia con un proiettile dalla punta di spugna dalla polizia israeliana . Ora è in ospedale e potrebbe perdere un occhio.
Quattro brevi commenti sull'incidente:
1) Orripilante com'è, l'incidente non sorprenderà nessuno che abbia seguito quello che sta succedendo a Gerusalemme Est nell'ultimo anno . Issa non è il primo bambino ad essere stato seriamente ferito dalle forze di sicurezza israeliane . Mohammed Shtiwi, 14 anni, è stato colpito con un proiettile di gomma in testa. Abd al-Rahman Shtiwi, 10 anni, è attualmente in stato vegetativa dopo essere stato colpito con un proiettile vero dai soldati a Beit Jala.
2) Se non ne sai nulla , vale la pena prendersi un momento per pensare al perché questo genere di notizie non sono riportate da media mainstream (in Israele o all'estero).Ciò solleva alcune domande serie sul comportamento e sulle tattiche della polizia . Quanto è accaduto non è stato nemmeno menzionato in alcuni dei giornali più distribuiti d'Israele,come : ' Israele HaYom ' e ' Maariv ' (il sito web ' Israele HaYom ' in seguito ha pubblicato un breve aggiornamento sulla storia, ma chiaramente i redattori non hanno pensato che fosse abbastanza importante da essere pubblicata nell'edizione stampata). Malek Issa rivela il volto della condotta di Israele a Gerusalemme Est e la maggior parte dei lettori in Israele non saprà nemmeno della sua esistenza.
3) Non è una coincidenza o un caso . Isawiya è un esempio scandaloso, ma perfetto di cosa sia l'annessione dei territori nella realtà pratica . Gerusalemme est è stata annessa ad Israele solo per essere trascurata dalle autorità israeliane e allo stesso tempo è oggetto di intense azioni punitive da parte della polizia rendendo, così, la vita un inferno per i suoi residenti. Una tattica che conosciamo bene nei territori e finalizzata a 'dimostrare la nostra presenza'. La presenza della polizia non ha reso l'area più sicura; ha solo portato a tensioni costanti, a violenze contro persone innocenti. Questo è l'aspetto di Gerusalemme Est dopo decenni di annessione e tutto fa ritenere che l'annessione del resto dei territori occupati sarà peggiore.
4) Le forze di polizia entrano in Isawiya da quasi un anno per " dimostrare la loro presenza e , come dice la polizia stessa , senza motivo .
On Saturday, nine-year-old Malek Issa from Isawiya in East Jerusalem was shot in the face with a sponge-tipped bullet by Israeli Border Police forces. He is now in hospital and may lose an eye.
Four short comments on the incident:
1) Horrifying as it is, the incident won’t surprise anyone who has been following what’s been going on in East Jerusalem over the last year or so. Issa is not the first child who has been seriously injured after being shot by Israeli security forces. Mohammed Shtiwi, aged 14, was shot with a rubber bullet in the head. Abd al-Rahman Shtiwi, aged 10, is currently in a vegetative state after being shot with a live bullet by soldiers in Beit Jala.
2) If you weren’t aware of that, it’s worth taking a moment to think about why this kind of thing doesn’t make it into the mainstream media (in Israel or abroad). It’s a story about a nine year old who may lose his eye, which raises some serious questions about police behavior and tactics - and it didn’t even get mentioned in some of Israel’s most widely distributed newspapers, ‘Israel HaYom’ and ‘Maariv’ (the ‘Israel HaYom’ website later published a short update about the story but they clearly didn’t think it was important enough for it to make it into the printed edition). Malek Issa is the face of Israel’s conduct in East Jerusalem, and most newspaper-readers in Israel will never even know of his existence.
3) It’s not a coincidence. Isawiya is an outrageous, yet perfect example of what annexing the territories actually looks like in practice. East Jerusalem was annexed to Israel, only to be both neglected (physically and financially) by the Israeli authorities and at the same time characterized by intense punitive action by police that has made life hell for its residents, based on a tactic we know well from serving in the territories, called ‘demonstrating our presence’. Police presence has not made the area more secure; it has only led to constant tension, violence and innocent people being hurt. This is what East Jerusalem looks like after decades of annexation, and all the evidence points to the fact that annexing the rest of the occupied territories will be much worse.
4) Why have police forces been entering Isawiya for almost a year in order to ‘demonstrate their presence’? As the police themselves are saying - no reason at all. Don’t believe us? Listen to them yourself (clip in the first comment).
