Due obiettivi militari che i coloni non sono riuscite a raggiungere durante l'anno passato sono diventati importanti priorità. Uno è un cambiamento delle regole  di ingaggio  nelle  Forze di Difesa Israeliane  in modo che soldati  possano sparare più velocemente . Il secondo è sbarazzarsi del funzionario responsabile del Comando Centrale,Nitzan Alon  che mostra una certa freddezza verso di loro.I coloni vogliono che queste due cose avvengano  immediatamente. Se dobbiamo giudicare dalle esperienze precedenti e considerare la composizione del governo attuale, non vi è un rischio reale che non possano ottenere  ciò che vogliono.La campagna ha il rinforzo  dei media, in forma di articoli e inchieste per dimostrare  che i soldati si lamentano che l'IDF non permette loro di utilizzare la forza appropriata contro lanciatori di pietre e manifestanti. Il fatto sconvolgente che 11 palestinesi di età compresa tra 14-18 sono stati uccisi dal fuoco israeliano nel corso degli ultimi 12 mesi a quanto pare non soddisfa i coloni o di questi soldati.Sembrerebbe che pensino  che più sangue  palestinese saeà  versato più i palestinesi staranno silenziosi,ma  l'IDF e in particolare il capo del Comando Centrale  hanno  un approccio diverso: sono convinti  che ogni vittima civile supplementare aggiungerà  solo benzina sul fuoco della rivolta e genererà  ancora più schermaglie. Ora si capisce perché i coloni vogliono sbarazzarsi di Alon che non solo ostinatamente insiste  sul ripetto rigoroso della  normativa , ma ha un altro grave difetto per i settler   visto che sua moglie  è  di sinistra. Lo slogan dei coloni è  "Con Nitzan Alon, non c'è sicurezza" Lo definiscono un radicale di sinistra, a causa della sua decisione di annullare l'ordine di sequestro per il terreno utilizzato dall' l'insediamento Homesh . Recentmente è emerso   che Alon non ha utilizzato la sua autorità per  demolire avamposti illegali, aprendo la strada per la loro autorizzazione retroattiva da parte del governo.Il problema non è questo.  L'autorità di rinnovare  la sua nomina non può essere decisa dai  coloni, alcuni dei quali hanno agito senza come un esercito "alternativa", mentre altri contribuiscono tangibilmente ai disordini nei territori.Sassaiole,  lancio di bombe incendiarie e manifestazioni violente non sono una realtà tollerabile. Tuttavia sarebbe ingenuo aspettarsi  che una popolazione occupata  non cerchi  di  ribellarsi   contro i conquistatori e saccheggiatori delle sue terre. L'idea è quella di preservare la sicurezza riducendo  la violenza  e  il capo del Comando Centrale è riuscito  in questa missione. Cedere alle richieste dei coloni sarebbe come chiedere di aprire un  nuovo fronte .

So far the head of the IDF's Central Command, Maj. Gen. Nitzan Alon, has succeeded in his mission to preserve security while using the least possible violence against Palestinians. Now the settlers want him gone.

Two military objectives that the settlers did not succeed in achieving during the past year have now become important priorities. One is a change in the Israel Defense Forces’ rules of engagement, so that soldiers’ fingers can be quicker on the trigger. The second is getting rid of the officer in charge of Central Command, Maj. Gen. Nitzan Alon, who displays a certain coldness toward them.

The settlers want these two things resolved immediately. If we are to judge by previous experience and consider the makeup of the current government, there is a real risk that they will get what they want.
The campaign to encourage shooting is getting some reinforcement from the media, in the form of articles and investigative pieces that star soldiers complaining that the IDF doesn’t allow them to use appropriate force against stone-throwers and demonstrators. The horrifying fact that 11 Palestinians aged 14-18 have been killed by IDF fire during the past 12 months apparently doesn’t satisfy the settlers or these soldiers.
It would seem they believe that the more Palestinian blood is shed, the quieter it will be. But the IDF, and in particular the head of Central Command, takes a different approach, believing that every additional civilian casualty only adds fuel to the fire of revolt and generates even more skirmishes. Now we understand why the settlers want to get rid of Alon, who is not only stubbornly insisting on strict open-fire regulations, but has another serious flaw − his wife has leftist views.
It should be noted that Alon is no softy as a commander. The settler slogan “With Nitzan Alon, there’s no security,” and accusations that he is a radical leftist, owing to his decision to cancel the seizure order imposed on the land used for the long-evacuated Homesh settlement, ignore the various intense activities the IDF is carrying out in the West Bank. It also recently emerged that Alon did not utilize his authority to demolish illegal outposts, paving the way for their retroactive authorization by the government.
But drawing up a balance sheet of Alon’s activities is not the issue here. The authority to extend his appointment cannot be decided by the settlers, some of whom have acted without authority as an “alternative” army while others contribute tangibly to the unrest in the territories.
Stone-throwing, the tossing of firebombs and violent demonstrations are not a tolerable reality. However, it would be disingenuous to expect an occupied population not to try to rise up against its conquerors and the plunderers of its lands. The idea is to preserve security while using the least possible violence. To date, the head of Central Command has succeeded in this mission. Capitulating to the settlers’ demands would be like asking for a new front to be opened.
