Extremists in Paris kill 12 and injure 4. Common sense to the sane individual says that this is an atrocity, which it is. But, for some reason, Muslims like myself thousands of miles away are held responsible-- we're expected to denounce and prove to the rest of the world that this attack and the ideology behind it is not that which we stand with. If you've ever met me, my family, and my friends I think any sane person would be able to see that the majority of Muslims are normal, peaceful, ambitious people. We do not wish to be grouped with extremists any more. How many times will I be expected to denounce acts of terrorism before I'm considered credible and safe? Why is it that something that happened thousands of miles away while I was sleeping this morning will now have the ability to change my world completely?
When something like this happens, Muslims would really love to be able to sympathize and grieve- not be held responsible and think "what are my friends going to say?" Or worry about getting through security at the airport the next day.
As a simple human being, I offer my condolences for anyone affected by this attack. As a Muslim, I ask that 1.57 billion citizens of the world stop being held accountable for the actions of maybe .0001% of the Muslim population, which is about .00001% of the entire world population.

Degli estremisti a Parigi uccidono 12 persone e ne feriscono 4. Chiunque sano di mente definisce questa un'atrocità, quale è, ma per qualche ragione i musulmani come me, lontani migliaia e migliaia di miglia, sono considerati responsabili. Da noi ci si aspetta che denunciamo e proviamo al resto del mondo che questo attacco e l'ideologia che c'è dietro non ci appartiene. Se hai mai incontrato me, la mia famiglia e i miei amici penso che qualsiasi persona sana di mente vedrebbe che la maggioranza dei musulmani è costituita da persone normali, pacifiche, ambiziose. Non vogliamo essere più confusi con gli estremisti. Quante volte ancora ci si aspetterà da me che io denunci atti di terrorismo per essere considerato credibile e sano? Perché qualcosa che è accaduto a migliaia di miglia di distanza stamattina, mentre dormivo, ora avrà il potere di cambiare completamente il mio mondo?
Quando accade qualcosa come questo, ai musulmani piacerebbe molto poter solidarizzare ed esprimere il proprio dolore senza essere ritenuto responsabile e pensare "che cosa diranno i miei amici?" o preoccuparsi per le ulteriori misure di sicurezza all'aeroporto il giorno successivo.
Come semplice essere umano porgo le mie condoglianze per chiunque sia stato coinvolto in questo attacco. Come musulmano chiedo che 1,57 miliardi di cittadini del mondo non siano ritenuti responsabile di azioni compiute forse dallo 0,0001% della popolazione musulmana, ossia lo 0,00001% della popolazione del mondo intero
